VINTAGE 2014
We experienced one of the coolest and rainiest winter seasons in the past decade. The cold and wet weather ensured an even bud burst, but initial vineyard growth was slow due to a cool, wet spring and early summer. The climate was favourable during flowering and good berry set was obtained. High rainfall around mid-November resulted in strong vigour, which required meticulous canopy management and crop control to achieve ideal canopy aeration and sunlight exposure. Mild conditions during the very important ripening period provided slow and proper ripening, with cooler weather in March. As a result, our grapes had excellent colour and elegant structure at very acceptable sugar levels. Our yield was 50 hectolitres per hectare.
ANNO 1693 vintage 2014 has a deep, rich hue of dark plum and burgundy. Cassis, mixed with sweet ripe plums, reach the nose first and intensify over time in the glass where a combination of red and black berries await and tempt. Delicate spices and well balanced oak tones sit proudly the background. On the palate, ripe red cherries at the entrèe lead to plum and red fruit. Delicate notes of cedar combined with an edge of aniseed fill the palate. Rich and elegant, complex and balanced with gripping tannins on the mid-palate. The after taste lingers with memories of cedarwood and juicy ripe fruit.
Aged in barrel and bottle for a total of thirty months, ANNO 1693 vintage 2014 is an elegant, rich, complex wine with uncompromising quality and it is a true reflection of exceptional terroir.
