VINTAGE 2011

A slightly warmer and more windy than average summer led into a very warm early harvesting period. Precision in our approach to irrigation scheduling together with hands on canopy management helped our grapes to achieve good overall ripeness and a balanced analysis with a fresh, natural acidity. Our yield was 31.0 hectolitres per hectare.

Eisen & Viljoen 2011 is a rich and layered wine with intense aromas of red and black cherries with hints of cassis and pencil shavings, and flavours of ripe cherries, plum and red fruit. Notes of cassis together with an edge of mint fill the palate. Finely knitted tannins build and gain on the mid-palate to a persistent finish with a touch of spice. Memories of cigar box and juicy ripe fruit linger on the aftertaste. Aged in the barrel and bottle for a total of forty four months, Eisen & Viljoen is an elegant yet complex wine of uncompromising quality.

“Eisen & Viljoen Bordeaux-style blends rate among the top cult wines in South Africa. Eisen & Viljoen 2011: intense flavours of ripe mulberries, soy, fynbos and hints of mint. Full mouthfeel, structured, balanced, and elegant. A juicy palate that leaves a long, velvety tannins finish. Drink now through to 2021. It is a rare find, to keep or enjoy on exceptional occasions!” - Tawanda Marume, Head Sommelier, Singita Game Reserve , Tanzania.
